What are your options?

There’s no single right answer; it depends on how you use Seesaw. Here are the three paths most teachers are navigating:

Stay on Starter

If you teach one class with 35 or fewer students, the new limits may not affect your day-to-day experience at all. Seesaw Starter stays free forever and now includes three new features at no cost.

Frequently Asked Questions

These updates apply only to new tasks going forward after June 30th. Your existing content, classes, and student work are not affected in any way.

Will my existing student work, portfolios, and classes be deleted?

Mentor authors model writing skills and share expert tips through accessible video and audio formats. Students respond flexibly with voice, photos, drawings, handwriting, video, typing, and more. Lessons provide multiple means of engagement via writing prompts and options to apply focus skills to current projects.

Students analyze mentor texts to learn critical thinking, syntax, text structure, writing craft, and transcription, aligning with the Writing Rope (Sedita, 2023).

Guided, partner, and independent practice activities include auto-graded assessments for immediate feedback on developing writing skills. Seesaw facilitates peer, self, and teacher feedback through sentence frames and reflection.

Dr. Wiley Blevins and his author friends create an engaged, inclusive writing community, sharing tips and examples while using proven practices like supporting oral language and scaffolding higher-order thinking to improve elementary writing instruction (Graham et al., 2018; Kim & Graham, 2022).

Authors model drawing from real life to craft various text types. Dr. Blevins acts as a powerful co-teacher, explicitly teaching grammar skills (e.g., parts of speech, sentence types, expansion, word ordering) through engaging mentor texts and instructional videos.

Aligned with state and Common Core standards, Seesaw Writing ensures that students are intentionally practicing skills essential to becoming strong writers. Read more about how below.
