Accessibility Philosophy

Seesaw is passionate about providing learners with diverse ways to demonstrate and share their learning. Our intuitive tools allow students to use photos, videos, voice, text, and more to showcase their understanding. For example, they can photograph written work, record videos of themselves reading aloud, type or draw responses, or use our Draw+Record tool to narrate their thought process during math problems.

Teachers can also offer multiple modes of instruction. They can add voice or video instructions to lessons or announcements to support pre-readers and students who are blind or have low vision. Text labels, captions, and closed captions support students and families who are deaf or hard of hearing. Teachers can also differentiate instruction by assigning tailored lessons or activities to individual students or groups of students.

For students or family members using assistive technologies, please add captions or voice captions to all multimedia posts.

To foster a strong learning community, teachers, students, and family members can leave voice and text comments on student work. Seesaw also offers translation features for teachers and families who speak different languages.

These features enhance understanding, allow personalized expression of learning, and build a supportive learning loop among students, educators, and families.

Accessibility Conformance Reports for Seesaw

Seesaw adheres to globally recognized accessibility standards when developing our web application, mobile applications, and Library Curriculum. The standards we follow are the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), the Revised 508 Standards, and EN 302 549 of the European Accessibility Act. Our Accessibility Conformance Reports (ACRs), created using the standard VPAT template, explain how our platforms and curriculum materials measure up to these accessibility standards. The reports are updated annually and available for download in our trust center.

Support Hearing and Audio Needs

Seesaw offers multi-language closed captions for videos and audio in the Creative Canvas, Live Captions across devices, and flexible visual ways for students to show what they know.

Support Cognitive and Learning Differences

Focus Mode clears the canvas of distractions, while Practice Mode lets students check their work with real-time feedback. Together, they help students with cognitive and learning differences stay focused and work at their own pace.

Support Motor Access and Participation

The Seesaw web app can be navigated entirely by keyboard, and multimodal tools such as voice recording, video, and photo let students express their learning in the format that works best for them.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Product Certification highlights Seesaw’s commitment to equitable and accessible learning experiences in product development, in alignment with the UDL Framework and Guidelines.

This has been a powerful tool for my non-verbal students and those with limited communication skills who become verbal by the end of the year. During end-of-year parent-teacher conferences, I get to sit with families and play for them a recording of a child at the beginning of the year communicating through their device or having an aide read to them, compare it to the middle of the year, when they start vocalizing sounds and words, and to the end of the year, when they are reading independently.”
