Life Skills Hub is an Ofsted-rated Good independent specialist school supporting young people from Year 6 to Year 13.
Working with learners who have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), many of whom have experienced disrupted education or struggled in mainstream settings, the school delivers highly personalised learning designed around every young person’s individual needs.
Today, Seesaw is embedded across every subject and used by every learner, teacher and family. Personalising learning for every learner
No two learners at Life Skills Hub are the same.
The school supports young people with a wide range of learning needs, strengths and communication styles, meaning flexibility is essential. Every learner has access to their own iPad, with Seesaw used consistently throughout the school day.
Whether pupils are recording practical work, creating artwork, taking part in PE, completing Duke of Edinburgh activities or learning in community settings, Seesaw captures every achievement in one place.
Rather than relying solely on written work, teachers build a rich picture of progress through photographs, videos, voice recordings and observations, allowing every learner to demonstrate what they know in a way that works for them.

Strengthening family engagement
For many families, traditional communication simply wasn’t enough.
Because many learners travel to school by taxi, parents and carers rarely have the opportunity to speak with staff at the beginning or end of the school day. Previously, updates were largely limited to emails, phone calls and end-of-term reports.
Today, Seesaw provides families with a live window into school life.
Teachers regularly share photographs, videos, examples of work and feedback, giving parents a far richer understanding of what their child is learning, how they’re engaging and the progress they’re making.
Instead of waiting weeks for updates, families can celebrate achievements as they happen and continue conversations about learning at home.

Giving every learner a voice

For one selectively mute learner, this has transformed how staff understand and celebrate progress.
Rather than relying on verbal communication, he uses Seesaw to share photographs and visual evidence of his learning, giving teachers valuable insight into his creativity, interests and achievements while ensuring his voice is represented throughout his education.
The platform also supports the school’s trauma-informed approach. Positive feedback from teachers remains available long after lessons have finished, allowing learners to revisit encouragement, celebrate success and build confidence over time.
Bringing EHCP outcomes to life
At Life Skills Hub, Seesaw has become far more than a digital portfolio.
Teachers link evidence directly to learners’ EHCP outcomes, capturing progress as it happens rather than recreating evidence later. Photographs, videos, observations and examples of work provide a rich, visual record that supports annual reviews and demonstrates the impact of each learner’s provision.
This gives families greater visibility of progress while helping commissioning local authorities clearly see the outcomes they are investing in.

Inspection-ready evidence that saves teachers time
Capturing evidence throughout the year has also reduced workload.
Rather than creating reports from scratch, teachers reuse learning already recorded in Seesaw for annual reviews, progress meetings and reporting. The result is less duplication, more meaningful evidence and more time focused on teaching.
The same approach proved invaluable during Ofsted.
When inspectors requested evidence, staff were able to retrieve exactly what they needed within moments through Seesaw’s searchable learning journals, making inspection preparation significantly easier.
