Teachers, are you looking for ways to add a spark to writing instruction? Want to foster creative storytelling in your classroom? Seesaw is partnering with Story Pirates to bring fun and engaging ELA learning experiences to you and your students!
The Story Pirates aren’t your typical swashbuckling sailors. They don’t steal gold or raid ships. They’re searching for a different kind of treasure: kids’ wildest, most imaginative stories! The crew aboard the Story Pirates’ ship—including world-class actors, comedians, improvisers and musicians—takes original stories from real kids around the world, and turns them into plays, songs, books, and episodes of their award-winning podcast. Their aim is to nurture and inspire the big thinkers, dreamers, and creative problem solvers of tomorrow.
Seesaw and Story Pirates are excited to present you with live virtual sessions and resources to bring your ELA instruction to life!
LEARN WITH THE EXPERT
Bringing ELA to Life: Arts Integration for Character Creation
On May 8th from 4:30-5:30 pm PST Seesaw will host a Learn with the Expert Webinar where Story Pirates will explore techniques to help students create engaging characters that leap off the page. We’ll explore everything from the broad strokes of creating new characters, to fun methods of “showing not telling” characters with concrete details, to a mini-lesson on quotation mark placement for character dialogue that students will actually enjoy! All of this will be supported by arts-integrated techniques that will heighten student engagement, but which will feel natural and comfortable for educators, and fit easily within their usual teaching practice.

SEESAW LIBRARY COLLECTION
Story Pirates Story Sparks
The Story Pirates Story Sparks Collection can now be found in the Seesaw Library! Story Pirates Story Sparks uses creative story sparks from our friends at Story Pirates to engage in standards-aligned writing activities. Using clips from the hilarious Story Pirates Podcast, as well as inspirational quotes and short bios, these lessons hook students with creative prompts to spark ideas for their writing. Then, different brainstorming, revising, and partner activities assist students in publishing their final writing artifact to complete their lesson and experience.
